I John 4:18

(NET Bible) There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.45 The46 one who fears punishment47 has not been perfected in love.

(ALT) [There] is no fear in love, _but_ perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. But the one fearing has not been perfected in that love.

(CEV) A real love for others will chase those worries away. The thought of being punished is what makes us afraid. It shows that we have not really learned to love.

(GW) No fear exists where his love is. Rather, perfect love gets rid of fear, because fear involves punishment. The person who lives in fear doesn't have perfect love.
